Zach Urness of the Statesman Journal recently wrote an article detailing why Silver Falls originally did not become a National Park and instead became our cherished Oregon State Park. The picture above is from June Drake, a local Silverton photographer, who played a key role in promoting the park during the early National Park proposals.
Silver Falls still has a lasting legacy from the National Parks Service as seen in our rustic architecture designed by the NPS – all our buildings on the National Registry of Historic Places – including the South Falls Lodge and Silver Creek Youth Camp to name but a few.
The waterfalls of Silver Falls made the news again!
