AmeriCorps NCCC at Silver Falls
A Much Needed “Shot in the Arm!”
This past November and December Silver Falls State Park received a much-needed “shot in the arm” of enthusiasm and energy in the form of 23 AmeriCorps NCCC team members. AmeriCorps NCCC is a federal service learning program covering 4 Rounds throughout the year. Two teams – both ironically named “silver” – made the journey from their training base in Sacramento, CA and made Silver Falls their base camp for Round 1. The “Silver Three” Team partnered with Champoeg State Park for a portion of their projects and then joined Silver Falls’ “Silver Five” Team towards the end of their Round 1 to help with our annual Christmas Festival – an event meant to give back to the local community during the Holiday Season. In addition to being excellent ambassadors for the State Parks and AmeriCorps throughout the Christmas Festival preparations and event staffing, they also completed conservation projects such as historic building restorations, invasive species removal, and trail maintenance. Words can’t describe how much we appreciated their help!
